Jakwob - Blinding (Hybrid Minds Remix)

Just some chilled liquid Drum and Bass. Really loving the Hybrid Minds guys at the moment.

Utada Hikaru - Sakura Nagashi [Instrumental]

It’s been too long since I listened to her… that is all.

Porter Robinson - Language

So I’m now on my 3rd day in Moscow, So in addition to this nice little ditty by Porter Robinson and its titillating accompanying video, I’m going to give you my face value reaction to staying in this megacity.

  1. The subway is epic. Old, yet so efficient. And they take off so fast and jerkily that I’m sure it’s all part of the government’s old plan to increase population by having youngsters falling onto on another on the trains.
  2. Which leads to my next observation. 7 women for ever 1 man. And…
  3. The (young) women are beautiful. The stereotype is true, and there’s a reason they populate the world’s strip joints. It’s not that they are more beautiful… there are simply more beautiful women.
  4. Everyone, and especially the women, dress very well. When I walk around in a t shirt and jeans, I feel like I’m insulting their senses. You’ll know quickly enough whether you’re under-dressed, because women will look you up and down and either avert their eyes quickly or smile at you.
  5. The men drink, Vodka, a lot. The women don’t really drink that much at all.
  6. Russian is hard, and it’s difficult to get by without speaking it. Even speaking in the most basic Russian, (hello, thank you) lets people know that I can’t speak the language. Only some of the young people speak English.
  7. Everything is expensive. Except cigarettes.
  8. There is always traffic on the roads… always.
  9. It’s in what the Russian call “the short Summer before Winter”… which means it’s warmer than Cape Town was when I left, but it’s going to get a lot colder.

I’ll do more of an update when I’ve experienced more, but so far my life has revolved around getting the basics to survive here. Like setting up my iPhone… the apps are amazingly useful, for Russian, and the Metro.

I’ll update soon. Until then.

до свидания (edit: my tumblr theme doesn’t support Cyrillic. I’ll try fix that when I have time.)

Camo & Krooked - Afterlife (BCee Remix) Just when I thought nothing could sate my lust for anime style fight scenes, I happened upon this gem. From Hospital Records it’s a BCee remixing good ol C&K’s Afterlife… conviently while I’m scouting around for new old DnB.

Sub Focus - Tidal Wave (preview radio rip)

Not what I’d expect, or expect to like, but there’s something about this track that hooks me. A far cry from the Sub Focus I know and love… but I still dig it man, I still dig it.

Kill the Noise - Kill the Noise Part 1

Possibly the most appropriate and well constructed dubstep music video I have seen. Kill the Noise has not been known to shirk from his inspiration. So enjoy an army of neon soaked warriors fighting their way through the horde of 80’s inspired zombies.

KILL KILL KILL!

Daughter - Home

Through an intercepted Facebook communication, I happened upon these North London Xxish sounding folk. Daughter are another example of the sort of indie rock I’ve been really into over the last few months (see The Jezebels, The Xx, The Joy Formidable etc.) which of course makes them not entirely unique, but surely off center of mainstream.

“And I’m very happy I found them” I say, deeply sipping whiskey and water, “for what would my life be without Daughter?”

It would be nothing but nothing.

Mumford and Sons - I Will Wait

So we all grow more and more excited for the new Mumford and Sons album, with the obvious exception of those who do not like the British folk rock outfit. Of course those people also eat their own young and wear crocs. The real scumbags of humanity.

This is our first taster of what’s to come, and it’s a very easy pleaser. Nothing too out there, but catchy and enjoyable. My only gripe may be that it sounds so familiar… and not just in a Mumford and Sons way, in a general way.

That’s not always a bad thing, however, and nothing makes me feel like stomping my feet on the ground and smiling as I sing quite like a Mumford and Sons song.

Bloc Party - Octopus

Long time no postee. But Bloc Party are coming to South Africa cues girlish screams of delight … so I’m very excited about that. Although I might not be here for them, which sucks. Either way, they’ve just released a new track so here it is for y’all to hear and see. With a trippy video.

The Baseballs - Candy Shop (50 Cent Rock ‘n Roll cover)

These guys are fantastic! Berlin based 50’s style Rock ‘n roll or rockabilly covers of current hits… but the videos really make it. See also Chasing Cars, Hello and Umbrella.
